My Foundation Mis- adventures

I have had problems with finding my perfect foundation shade, for instance at Superpharm while chatting with the lady assigned to the makeup section, L'Oreal True Match in n7 was recommended, this gave my skin a beautiful glow and I felt the shade was perfect for me because I got a lot of compliments upon the even skin tone of my face.I really don't like heavy makeup, most times its powder, concealer, eyeliner and lip balm/lipstick.
So when my powder was finished I decided to try Pennywise as their products are usually cheaper than Superpharm, here the sales clerk was convinced that I was a L'Oreal n8 cappuccino...jeez! Anyway I bought it, tried it out and though the powder applied beautifully, during the course of the day I realised it would oxidise a shade darker.. :c(
So recently after hearing such great reviews about Black Opal both from friends and online. I decided I would purchase the Black Opal mineral powder foundation and concealer, only to discover that upon opening the package, that the foundation colour chosen for me by the sales clerk *medium dark* turned out to be way off!!Serious bummer, thankfully the concealer in" toast" was on point!
At night
So in my interest to get away from the whole powder foundation drama, as well as to try out my recently purchased stippling brush, I decided to try out some Revlon Color Stay liquid foundation. This time I made sure to speak to the actual rep, and I was advised by the Revlon consultant that cappuccino in their line would be too reddish brown, as I had much more of a caramel undertone. Since they did not have the corresponding Colorstay setting powder she called in the other rep who suggested I complement it with the L'Oreal powder in w8 which when I got home proved to be so true to my shade, what do you think?
During daylight did not contain the softflex technology, but I'm still luvin' it  :c)

By the way luckily I have friends of different shades,so they were able to benefit from my mistake and in T&T there is no such thing as exchanges on makeup!!Well... I would like to think that I'm wiser now hopefully...yea.

Body Treats store formerly known as BodySecrets

Last week really started for me with a bang!!My other half got seriously injured and then my classes started so it was a scramble to "prioritise and organise" to suit the situation. So while looking for toiletries and stuff with the in laws I discovered another possible outlet for purchasing a few more mini train cases locally.
So cute!

BODY TREATS,
Aboutique Mall
Frederick St.
Port of Spain

In my fervent hunt last year I really did pass in there to check and they told me around Christmas they would have some in stock, but I'd already discovered my love before that time and bought her home!
The dual snap shots is to just give the an overall view

These cases are a bit smaller and one has a mirror, they would certainly fit inside your suite case, for those ladies who travel often, without having to worry about it being misplaced as a singular luggage along with your other stuff. They had at least three selections of mini train cases on display and for the faint of heart or just those who love simplicity, the black faux leather caboodle was also available.
I'm seriously liking the zebra print

They also sell several makeup brush sets, such as the Kirkland Signature brush set, this included the regular size brushes, and travel set with a faux leather case for each. There were perfumes, makeup sets, lotions and other affordable but popular items that gets us ladies/shopaholics all excited to add to our stash, my sister in law was all taken up with the crackle nail polishes_ she's into doing her own acrylics and nail art_"yuh know the thing!!"

I did not spend much time there, but I do intend to return to check them out again when life returns to some semblance of normalcy,
                                            bye for now!!

(so if you're in the area or you want to check if the item mentioned is available call   1-868-625-9935)

Small haul - essentials

The after Christmas/ New Year sales rush has more or less settled and most people are back out to work, so our malls and shopping areas are not as packed. So I just thought I'd stop in and top up on a few personal items, namely my face powders.
I'm currently using the L'Oreal true match powder n8 cappuccino, which I like quite a lot but before that I used the Maybelline Mineral Power, Tan -Dark 1. This would look good at first, but would oxidise into a orange brown shade which did nothing for me, and as far as colour choices there weren't much at Pennywise.
So this year  I'm trying to use makeup that are minerals or very skin friendly..this does not mean I'm giving up the use of what I have that's not totally organic instead I hope for it to be a gradual transition into healthier skin products at supposedly drugstore level.
So while at Pennywise, I decided to purchase a few products mainly two items from the Black Opal new line , it did not have any SPF protection as the Maybelline, but it had a greater colour selection for women in the darker spectrum so I thought I'd give it a go...

So here is a list of the few items I got:
  • Black Opal mineral brilliance powder and cover and clear acne concealer.
  • CORNSILK - quick colour powder...can be used on the face for healthy glow, or specifically on the eyes and cheeks.
  • Cherry Blossom #38, 100% human hair black eyelash.

New Year Resolution

This year I'm really looking forward to taking better care of myself

My diet
...no over indulging of JAPS
(a local fast food outlet that sells chicken/fish and fries_gosh I love their Garlic source yumm!)
Anyway there will be more fruits incorporated into my diet meaning if I can't get local ( I no longer live in the country area...sigh), well foreign fruits will be used_most likely apple and pears. Including multivitamin where lacking.

Exercising
I will get my lazy bum unto that elliptical machine I was so wild to get early last year as well as find ways to include the pair of 3lb dumbbells my fitness fanatic friend got me for the Christmas!!

Skin Care
Get serious about my skin care regimen_ cleanse, tone, moisturise daily; exfoliate, steam, mask application when necessary!

Hair Care
wash weekly, moisturise with water or a leave in conditioner every other day, deep condition every other week and finally starting chapter 3of the Science of Black Hair Care that I bought.

Craft
Doing little handicraft stuff and sewing to help maintain my lovely budget!

Scheduling - giving attention to all of the above with school and work taking a great portion of my time, finding balance is so necessary!!

Personal note:
Just trusting in God and believing that things though sometimes difficult will be made right according to his will in my life.

What's your 2012 new year resolution?!!

My Favorite Drugstore Face Primer

Early 2010 my search for a face primer had begun, I have combination skin, and live in a warm tropical climate.I first heard of face primers from a you tube beauty guru ICRAIZ where she mentioned using Monistat Chafing Gel_ yes a gel originally intended for persons whose legs rub and other private places etc. Which unfortunately was not available in "Trinbago" land (at least not at any of the drugstores I shop at).
Then there was the Phillip's milk of Magnesia_any brand would work. It just did nothing for my skin besides giving my face an initial white cast...later remedied by my usual oil shine...sigh...when last year in 2011 while perusing the cosmetic section at the drugstore, the sales clerk and I started a conversation about primers which resulted in him recommending L'Oreal Magic Perfecting Base - the studio secrets professional line.
When this was nearing 3/4 quarts of the jar I decided to try out the SACHA - Mattifier on the referral of a very good friend and finally when the jar was more empty than full, I purchased the REVLON Beyond Natural Smoothing Prmer.

My Experience:
L'Oreal Studio Secrets Magic Perfecting Base - well the name says it all, its applied after your face moisturizer but before your foundation as (small tip please allow a minute or two for your moisturizer to absorb into your skin).

Pros
  • it gave my face a smooth nearly pore less appearance ( andI have large pores!)
  • although pink in the jar it goes on colorless
  • has a spongy/mousse like texture which spreads easily so only need a small amount.
  • skin feels soft and looks a bit dewy with no sticky feel
  • holds powder base foundation well
  • seems better suited for dry to normal skin.
  • lasted a few months with daily use (you don't need much).
Cons
  • Within an hour or two was shiny again.
  • Due to to the soft velvety feel it gave my face, it led me to keep touching my face frequently which resulted in me getting cystic acne periodically.
Ingredients : cyclohexasiloxane, dimethicone/vinyl dimethicone crosspolymer, silica, acrylates, copolymer, disodium stearoyl glutamate, aluminium hydroxide.(May contain: CI 77891/Titanium Dioxide, CI 77491/Iron Oxide)

Sacha Mattifier
It is a white cream like gel and it basically goes on after you apply your moisturizer but a before your foundation.

Pros
  • It absorbs into the skin leaving a smooth matte finish
  • Has a light floral scent.
  • liquid/mousse type foundation applies nicely.
  • My face felt light and able to "breathe"
  • It really did control my shine.
Cons
  • Don't like the doe foot applicator or bottle, would prefer a squeeze type bottle less chance of micro-organism build up.
  • There will eventually be wastage  as the applicator will not be able to reach all product when its nearing its end.
  •  Its light scent may not appeal to every one, but it does fade eventually.
Ingredients: water, stearic acid, propylene glycol, zea mays, cyclomethicone, C12-15 alkyl benzoate, perfume, propyl paraben.

Revlon Beyond Natural Smoothing Primer
This is a clear gel that feels like liquid, but is not runny and it has a faint fruity scent. Apply after moisturizer but before foundation.

Pros
  • Absorbs quickly into skin leaving a smooth semi matte canvas for you to apply your foundation.
  • Controls  my shine on my T-zone.
  • My skin feels light and free - no playing with my face so no acne.
  • My makeup looks good at the end of the day,                                                                              (I don't work in an air conditioned environment so I may touch up with translucent powder or not - it depends!)
  • Love the clear squeeze type bottle, you use only what you need!
Cons
  • The light scent may not appeal to everyone, but it fades away.
  • None otherwise.

Ingredients: Trisiloxane Dimethicone, Cyclomethicone, PEG-PPG-19/19 Dimethicone, Aqua(water),Glycerin, Dimethicone/Silesquiooxane Copolymer, Alcohol Denat., Citrullus Vulgaris    9watermelon), Fruit Extract, PyrusMalus(Apple), Fruit Extract, Persea Gratissima (Advocado), Fruit Extract, Euterpe Oleracea Fruit Extract,Tocopheryl Acetate, Ammonium Polyacryloyldimethyl Tayrate, Saccharomyces,Zinc Ferment,Saccharomyces/Copper Ferment, Saccharomyces/Iron Ferment, , Saccharomyces/Silicon Ferment, Saccharomyces/Potassium Ferment, Polysorbate 20, Polysorbate 80, Silica Silylate, Parfum (Fragrance), Limonene, Caprylyl Glycol, 1,2-Hexanediol 21537.

Overall my preference leans towards the Revlon Beyond Natural, it works well on my skin, has a lot of natural stuff mixed in with the synthetic and I'm slowly trying to re-intergrate  more natural products into my regimen, the Sacha Mattifier is very good but the packaging....?!!, in our climate I think the L'Oreal would work well on dry and normal skin. But this is just my opinion. I hope this review helps those budget beauties and newbies out there who want their makeup look to last.

Wishing you all a HAPPY, HEALTHY, PROSPEROUS and BLESSED
