Magical Makeup : Party Girl Palette

Hi, I know I've been missing in action but thought I would stop in to say hello and share my thoughts .. while watching one of our local youtuber yannibyrdable earlier in the week I learnt about the closing down sale of  one of my favorite cosmetic booth Magical Makeup (its where I bought my first bh cosmetic 120 palette).
There was other cosmetic items such as the lip tars, ambrosia eye base, e.l.f  so its worth stopping out at Trincity Mall to check out the other items priced at 50% of the regular price. So I just bought myself the will be sad to see another small business go, the shopping there was really convenient  and the hassle to not shop online was what I really appreciated the most, but I wish them the best in whatever venture they may choose to go after...

On both the box and the actual palette the ingredients are listed as well as instructions to use a primer which would allow your colours to last longer..
Sad to say my camera don't pick up the wording to clearly :c(

The colours when applied are very true to colour and pigmented as is per usual with bh cosmetics and though I probably did not really need another palette this neat limited edition palette certainly has a much more travel friendly size  than its other larger "siblings"

There are a variety of greens in this palette that I like, a few matte and satin shades with maybe one shimmer..overall I think its a gorgeous colour combo and though my camera seems to not pick up the true brightness, below are just a few swatches of what it looks like without a base or primer..

online site: bh cosmetics
                        price:USD $17.95   sale:USD $10.00

                  Amazon USD $11.00

                  Amazon (UK) 19.99

locally: at Magical Makeup while stock lasts
            was TT$200. now TT$100.

Hope everyone is having an enjoyable weekend
its raining right about now

A quick look at L.A. COLORS Jumbo Eye Pencils..

Hi everyone, sorry I haven't written any blog post in quite a while but its been a hectic/crazy month for me.. its the month of my mother's passing and its also been a year since I've been  here ..but anyway just thought I would pop in!!

So my interest for colorful eye shadow pencils was recently re-awakened, while at Wonderful World. I decided to try out their L.A. Colors jumbo eye pencil. The sales clerk also mentioned that they stock the NYX jumbo pencil as well, and though I am a fan of a couple NYX products I'm also a stickler for budget friendly items and the price  difference between the NYX and L.A. Colors eye pencil was quite noticeable to my here's a look at the few colours that were available and securely wrapped at the time...(it seems to be a fast seller!)

There are 24 colours in all and they came in a sealed wrapper around the cover and 1/4 body of the pencil, and if you observe carefully you would notice that the point in the shade called relaxation seems pushed out a bit.. at the time I did notice but it was sealed! So when I got home thinking it was a screw cap like the Revlon Just Bittten Kissable Balm Stain I was sadly disappointed to realize that this was not the case with this particular'll need to sharpen!!
so below are the swatches..

beach resort seems to have a bluish-green undertone (middle colour)

Most of the colours I chose, sand castle, spring, beach resort, relaxation had a bit of shimmer, except for the limeade (the green) which was matte. The texture of the product is sort of waxy/creamy and can really work as an eyeshadow/eyeliner but for me I figure I could use them as colour base for certain looks I may want to try. Locally it cost TT$10.00 but it can also be bought at CHERRY CULTURE for USD $1.75

This month I was also fortunate enough to get my hands on the SLEEKMAKEUP face contour kit, they generally carry three basic shade/type. Light, medium and dark. I obviously got mines in dark!

Here's a close view of it...

This product I believe can be used on any skin shade, its all about choosing the right shade and how you apply it and I like that its  a small and convenient kit, easy for travel. On the site it cost USD$8.49.
I bought mine from a local makeup artist called Juanita Dowden she has a little store in Chaguanas called Chrissy Cottage, and supplies bridal and other makeup items, but I also read of  another local seller from another local blogger Bellezza Bee
Once you click the link to their pages you'll get further info...

The contour kit also came with a little pamphlet that shows the areas you can contour on your face

Anyway, hope everyone enjoyed their weekend and are fully energized for the work week ahead <33
Bye for now

Fighting the "oilies"

I have really been fascinated with trying out items that are able to control my oily T-zone and while browsing around Wonderful World I decided to try out Ruby Kisses HD SETn'FORGT setting powder..according to the packaging its supposed to give 16hrs flawless rub proof wear

I like the packaging, no worries of the product spilling all over and you can shake only what you want to use

Honestly speaking this item works amazingly well, it applies on smoothly and seems to blur out my large pore spaces along the sides of my nose. When applied on top of my foundation there is no problem of "melting" and my blush remains intact. They have at least four shades, one of which is a Banana shade which has been compared to the Ben Nye luxury powder in Banana that Kim Kadashian makeup artist has made famous for use of setting her under eye concealer, unfortunately none was available at the time...

Another favorite of mine is the NYX Shine Killer in SK01,  according to its packaging its a "Professional potion to eliminate the look of oil and shine so your face stays matte and fresh all day long"
Ingredientes: Dimethicone/Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Cyclopentasiloxane, Silica, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Ethylparaben, Butylparaben, Propylparaben, Isobutylparaben, Tocopheryl Acetate

Its 20ml and Cruelty Free (-_-) animals harmed.

This product is clear gel which disappears into the skin quickly when applied leaving a smooth matte surface to apply your foundation. You don't feel it on your skin, instead all you see is the result and your skin can breathe..totally lightweight and non-oily!
Really enjoying this one.

The rice powder comes in four sizes and you don't need to cake it on to get the full effects

My third oil control favourite is the Halener Rustique rice powder, this can be applied to skin without a foundation for a matte appearance or after you apply your foundation..
I have been using the black opal oil control powder for years now and yes it does its thing but this little powder out performs it on my skin...and that is saying a lot ~because I do not live nor work in an air conditioned environment!~

You just need a little and although the powder is white, it is very finely milled and blends into your skin without giving you that "ashy/ghostly" appearance.

So these have been my favourite oil control products of late.
Hoping everyone has a blessed week ahead :c)

If you wan to try the items mentioned they can be found at:

or locally you can get the first two items at Wonderful World

NYX Nude on Nude

So last month while debating on whether to try out our local glitzy glam bag I spent a lot of time viewing the site for Halener Rustique and came across their Urban decay selection, they carry both the Naked 1 & 2 palette which is a very popular though pricey brand (both here and abroad), and I decided  as  my school semester is about to start that I may as well try my hand at the more affordable and popular NYX  Nude on Nude palette which also came with lip colours...

It came neatly packaged in bubble wrap and this is what the colours looked like when opened..

So as you can see, it came with 20 beautiful neutral shades and ten varying pink lip shades...

These shadows were applied to my skin without a base or primer...

The Shadows
The colours seemed a bit more cool than warm... there was a mixture of semi matte to a somewhat
"pearlescent" glow, so there was no chunky or overly shimmery colours. It was soft and picked up easily with my makeup brush. Some colours seemed similar at first but the undertones are different and shows up better in real life. The shadows blended nicely and though there was not too many overly dark  shades I believe you could still get a suitable daylight smoky look for your every work or school look.

The Lip Colours
A lot of the colour are that pale pink which I figure would probably show up well on someone with less pigmentation to their lips than my own or for those who like putting in the extra effort of neutralising their lips with concealer/primer/foundation etc.. but the few deeper shades like the three darker shades of pink and the orange/red are likely to be, my go to colours for this lip palette.

My overall view is, this is a very beautiful and compact palette suitable for travel, the colours are definitely suited for the every day look, especially in the work or school environment where people tend to catch a "fit" if they figure you have on too much colour on your eyes and I'm just liking the fact that you can get that finished effortless look without looking like you tried to hard.

This item can be bought locally at  Halener Rustique, they also offer a few other Urban Decay smaller palettes as well as Sleek Cosmetics if you don't want to go through the drama of online shopping/money conversion etc.( paid $200.00TT) the NYX  website

This is usually $25.00 U.S but can be bought cheeper when there are sales at the sites below..

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

Product Changes -hair and skin =(

So I stopped off at our local Pricesmart to stock up on a few basic items, one such item was my TRESemme Moisture Rich shampoo and conditioner packaged together as a special, when I got home I was idly comparing ingredients and realised it had changed, in fact a lot of the original ingredients was missing?!!

Disodium EDTA, DMDM Hydanton, Fragrance.

Well I haven't tried it out as yet, so I can't compare the changes in my hair, but I was certainly at a lost for words...Oh well, I guess its not the product that grows your hair so much  as the technique...still what a shocker!! But just thought that I would mention it.

Another one of my favorite item which has undergone some change or at least is missing in action is my  Clean & Clear - Soft Oil-Free Moisturiser Night, according to its label it "works through the night to soften, clarify & renew skin" this item could not be found at any of the Pennywise stores I visited, checked online on Amazon and it seems to be a discontinued product over a year now?!!!!

Anyway, while at Truevalue, I got the remaining bottle...jeez!

this is a lightweight night cream that contains:

Water, Cetearyl Alcohol, CyclopentaSiloxane, Glycerin, Glycolic Acid, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis Fruit Extract (Orange), Citrus Medica Limonum Fruit Extract (Lemon), DMDM Hydantoin, Alanine, Arginine, Lysine, Acer Saccharum Extract (Sugar Maple), Proline, May Also Contain: Sodium Hydroxide.

I usually awake with my skin moisturised and glowing, it evens out my skin and the beauty is that its not a bleaching cream, so does not contain hydroquinine...
So now I'm on a mission to find a replacement product, wish me luck and any suggestion would be appreciated......(heart felt sigh)

Anyway just felt like I had to post this!

Keep Good Everyone<33

Glitzy Glam Bag - Halener Rustique

I recently received my first Glitzy Glam Bag for the month of August, this was started by a local beauty supplier about a year ago, but I only discovered this in July via a local Youtuber. I received it on the 4th September, but it seemed like this was a late month for a lot of their customers but I figured it was worth the wait to try out a few new items...

So basically its similar in concept to the glam bag, birch boxes etc where you pay a monthly fee (TT $100) which includes postage and you get either some sample size or  full size items sent to your door or you can probably organise pesonal delivery if in Trinidad...
Items inside:

  • Concealer brush
  • Elf Super glossy Lip Shine SPF 15 - Goddess
  • Nabi Blush - Plum 05
  • bhcosmetics quilted makeup bag

right:  Elf lip gloss, middle : Nabi blush, end: Nabi eyeliner

My take on the items?? Hmm...
I'm not really a lip gloss, and though Elf products are not common in Trinidad and Tobago nation wide,it can occasionally be found at Excellent Stores when they remember to stock up on the US 1.00 line on the little turntable display, (items cost about $10 TT) rack and they've had lip gloss on display which never grabbed my attention...with that said ...

The lip gloss is a little sticky, has a bubble gum scent and taste has a touch of pigmentation and does exactly as it says - gives a super glossy shine and has SPF (protects lips from sunburn)

The Nabi eyeliner is matte and well pigmented,  seems to go on smoothly has no extra staying power but works well as a regular an unknown brand to me.

The Nabi blush in Plum was a bit pale on my skin when swatch, but it blended easily to a more acceptable shade, has no shimmers and was also a little powdery but workable on my skin tone...unknown brand

The concealer brush is typical to its kind.. firm ,synthetic hair, non abrasive on the skin and can serve for other functions.

bhcosmetics makeup bag/pouch is made out of a quilted synthetic shiny cloth material, has an inner pocket and can be used ideally to carry around your daily touch-up make essential.

Recently on there facebook  wall they've mentioned a surprise box, but I did not apply for that one but who knows, if my curiosity irks me enough I just may try it out. You can check out the company on there facebook page but you need to apply as a friend...its open to international shipping and they do sell other items like the 120 palette etc. Everything is calculated in TT dollars so be a smart shopper and purchase only if its worthwhile to you..

Simple eye look - Happy 50th Independence Anniversary :)

Its Independence Day in Trinidad & Tobago,we gained our independence from Great Britain  on the  31st of August 1962 . So this year we are celebrating our 50th year just as Jamaica did recently, there is the usual military parades and speeches that tend to accompany this eventful time as well as the added joy of our islands claiming our first gold medal from the 2012 Summer Olympics in London due to the hard work of Keshon Walcott, and not forgetting the other 29 athletes who participated to the best of there ability bringing home another 3 bronze medals....

This is just my simple effort, using the colours of the flag,... remember I'm not a professional makeup artist ( just my disclaimer!!)l.o.l

applied my elf eye primer

applied some maybelline color tattoo in pomegranate punk

Added some red from my bhcosmetic palette 2nd edition

Added  white from bhcosmetic palette

Added a matte black same palette

used my Jordana white eye pencil along my waterline

used a beige/brown  colour as a highlight colour to brow bone

Added some gold to my tear ducts from my Playgirl "loose" eyeshadow glitter
92/L shell shock

To everyone in T&T hope you all have a great Independence Day and to everyone else a blessed and Happy upcoming weekend (>.<)

Revlon - Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain :+

Lovesick/Passionee  020 (top); Romantic/Romantique 045 (bottom)

Hi people. I've been a bit busy and arriving home, feeling pretty drained_but did happen to stop off at Pennywise to  re-purchase my night cream, then gravitated to the cosmetic counter to check out what new products they had, and I was told about the Revlon lip balm stain...they only had 3 remaining at the time but, there are twelve shades in all.So I thought I would try out two of the remaining deeper colours in 020 Lovesick and 045 Romantic the one I  did not purchase was called seemed like a very light pink...

So here's a look at it on my lips...

What can I say about the product..

  • the packaging was pretty user friendly, sealed in a plastic wrapper so there is no fear of tampering and it requires no sharpening easy twist up silver bottom
  • the application was easy, Lovesick showed up instantly on my lips but Romantic required a few coats to show up well on my lips_  had good colour pay off otherwise!
  • it felt pretty moisturising on my lips
  • had a light minty fresh smell/taste
  • because it was a stain, it really did last quite well, much longer than my regular lipsticks

In the U.S the price range seem to be between $7- $9.U.S but locally its presently $46TT at
Pennywise, so expect price differences else where.
I like this product for my casual days... no fuss, no extra prep time in terms of lip liner etc.
Would I repurchase.... yes as a treat for myself but its not a requirement...but yeah  I do luv this product!!

As I've mentioned before, I am in no way a nail artist or even very fussy with my nails, but while browsing around Wonderful World I came across this cute little nail art set by L.A Girl and thought I would try it. As you can see from the packaging it also shows you some simple designs that you could try out, and strangely enough it is quite similar to our national colours, just by replacing the silver with white.

Anyway here was my simple take on their designs...

All three colours were pretty opaque after two coats, you could have added a third to the red....but to me it wasn't necessary. What caught my attention to the set was really the dotting tool, but the colours were beautiful and smooth upon application, unfortunately I did not notice any colour names or numbers for future references for buying the polish in its regular size...

This L.A. Girl Polka Dot cost $30.00 TT at Wonderful World or $4.US using the link, if you're a newbie like myself or just want to add to your tools, you can't go wrong with this buy :D

Emancipation Day in T & T

According to Caribbean history, in the year 1883 Thomas Buxton presented the Emancipation Bill in parliament, the Act was finally passed in 1834, but with a stipulation that ex slaves would be apprenticed for a period of four year to their former slave masters, so full freedom within form the British Empire to the British colonies did not come until August 1st 1838..

There was an actual tent with information concerning slavery

So in remembrance of this time afro-"Trinbagonians" celebrate what there parent handed down to them in terms of religion, craft and food as well as what was learned from the very large and divers African culture
So this is just a few pictures of this year event...
A street parade leading to the heritage center

A vendor plying his trade outdoors

Gold plated trinkets as well as items made of copper

A couple which also sell books on African history

It was an exciting day to be out, although my main reason was to hunt down another juicing book without much success, but I did at least get a few pieces of ethnic tribal jewelry and can say I was there for the last day of the Emancipation Day celebration.
