A mini haul :)

Its that time of the year where social event are the norm, whether you choose to celebrate Christmas or not there are many invites to attend Christmas dinners, charity events and work dinners. So in preparation for these events I decided pass into Wonderful World and Pennywise to check out their palettes and hair accessories. While at the first store I saw some sample size nail polish sets for $30.TT ...hmm not too bad_my purchase price for nail polish is usually $10 or less unless the colour is screaming buy me! buy me!_ so I purchased that and a liquid liner.  at the second store I got me some lipsticks and lip liners, made a few spins else where and came home quite pleased with my purchases.

My first step upon arriving home was to go on line to get information for the most long lasting top coat, I'm no nail expert but in the past after going through the prep work of : condition - base coat - nail polish - top coat with the drying time intervals between each. Its frustrating to discover while doing regular household chores the next day or so  my nails already  shows signs of chipping ...damn!!
So the top drugstore picks on line are:

Unfortunately for me I had already bought the Sally Hansen No Chip Acrylic Top Coat which had a lot of mixed reviews concerning its performance on natural nail ..sigh...anyway still  trying it!!

They are Jackelin lipsticks by Patina Cosmetics Inc. the colour to the (L) is Red #37, (R) Chins Red #011
its made in the U.S. and cost $8.95 TT.

Here are some swatches of the liners and stuff

From L to R
The first colour is L.A.Girl fine line which shows way more promise than the Revlon ColorStay blackest black!(its somewhere in my work bag).
Then China Red and Red respectively -lipsticks
These lipstick are very pigmented, semi-matte and true to colour_not to bright for those with medium to dark skin tones.
SANTEE soft eye& lip liner in brown_for my nude lips says its water proof too!
Cara Mia lip liner in Raspberry.
Jordanna lip liner  #20 Cherry

Not the Real Deal, but I'm liking it!

Do you remember in the days gone by when the the main questions you asked yourself when shopping for a handbag were " is it genuine leather?" "could it hold much?" "was it pretty enough?" "would it match my outfit?" "does it look cheap?" anyway I'm old school so these questions may not matter much to anyone in todays' social atmosphere but I do know an original Chanel bag locally would probably run you into a $1000.00 TT or more...if you can find it .ie
Today I decided to go to town to pay the usual monthly bills....yes I know this can be done online, but for me nothing beats direct payments, (any problems I can always quote place of business and time). So everywhere you looked people were displaying their "showy" Christmas stuff and whatever discounted items as bait to get you into there stores. So lo and behold when I saw this little item on sale for $55.00 TT you know I had to investigate!!

Yes people I know its not the real deal, but I've been checking out the fact that a few YouTubers and YouTube gurus have been wearing their replica's as statement pieces without a problem, ( I'm not saying that they don't sometimes have the real deal!!), so for me its a steal because it did not require waiting a whole month for eBay to ship me any item. Speaking of eBay I've been checking out a few other websites of interest that offer fairly good replicas for a person on a budget, but that's for another day.

If you're in T&T check your local variety stores and Chinese owned variety never know what you'll find!(this was bought at FAI'S---a local hardware...crazy huh?!!)

My Splurge!

So this month I decided to treat myself ...umm with car troubles, family ailments and job stresses, I just felt the need to be good to me, after all who knows best how you want to be appreciated other than yourself ( well yeah God, and maybe your mom, husband etc....)
Anyways as a teenager I was always addicted to magazines such as TEEN, Seventeen and Elle and I remembered those little plastic organizers and thought that they were so cute!! So sometime last year while passing through West mall I happened across this luggage store which had an abundance of these little organizers (train cases -as I learnt from you tube) and jewellery boxes but the prices were pretty high!(sigh)

So this year when I decided to check back there was absolutely none!! The sales clerk was different and certainly had no idea what I was describing?!! All they had was luggages and a very small variety of jewellery boxes and oh yeah a cigar case as well!(duh) To make a long story short I searched a couple of other places, even stopping off at my favorite handbag store in Trincity mall, then finally decided to surf the net (Amazon for sure) and had settled on the black caboodle's train case because of the awesome reviews  and discounted price!!
So lo and behold I was in great shock when passing through Trincity mall to purchase a quick lunch ( at Boomers), staring across at me from the "Hip Hop" store was my train case!!It was a little larger than I wanted, but it felt sturdy. It took me a whole month but today my baby is at home with me!! My only critique was it had a strange smell so I'm letting it air out a bit.

Disclaimer: I am no makeup artist, no thoughts of being one...just all about loving nice things for myself and sharing that info with others.
(Its an unknown brand but I believe if you check on Ebay or Amazon you may find one similar)

This little light - dewali

Last week the Hindu community around the world celebrated Diwali, it is said to be the "festival of lights". In preparation for this time, there is fasting and no form of meat is allowed. There is the general house cleaning and decorating as is usual with those who celebrate Eid and Christmas in "trinbago". The celebration or pray usually last for five days, midway of this on the darkest night there is the lighting of deyas,(little clay pots filled with coconut oil and a little wick) so for 2011 it officially started on Monday 17th, October, with the actual lighting up taking place on Wednesday.
So last week with all the lovely rain and major drops in phone service I had no intention of leaving the house,so decided to call a couple of friends  to wish them the best on their special day which resulted in two dropped calls and one success call which had my friend convincing me to just pass in, she was not doing anything elaborate and I did not need to stay long. Anyway this call took place around 11am, in true trini styling I did not arrive until 2pm. We proceeded to catch up on all sort of "ole talk", then she had to go walk the dog and change etc.
What was just a passing thru, worked out to be a lime and I was there for the actual preparation and setting up of lights. She explained to me that the celebration represents the success of good over evil, removal of obstacles and the entering of financial prosperity for the new year and that each day had a special significance and story.
I know I'm late but I want to wish all a" shubh dewali..."

Scary times on our roads

For the past week or two I've been having bad dreams, no it was not caused by indigestion or spending time watching scary movies, - that's not my scene! So last week Wednesday night (closer to 1:55am Thursday morning ) I woke up scared silly thinking I was going to die. The dream went like this ... I was in the backseat sitting next to a woman with a blond wig and someone else who I could not clearly identify. I was apparently on my way to work, the taxi stopped off for her to collect her daughter and she returned to the car while the third passenger a male, disappeared and reappeared in the front seat next to the driver. Anyway the vehicle was going up a slight incline on its way to passing a hospital, when an ambulance speeding out of the compound slammed into a brick barrier, flipped into the air and came hurtling towards our car... all I felt was the impact and when I opened my eyes I was in my  bed staring blurry eyed  at the time on my digital clock/radio. I was in a funk for days!!I told a close friend about it, and she spoke of prayers as a way to find comfort, but what really shook me up the most was the Monday when leaving work I overheard some co workers discussing an accident where an SUV carrying two arguing adults, who somehow swerved there vehicle into the median separating the east bound traffic from the west bound traffic causing there SUV to flip into the air and land upon two other vehicles on the highway going in the opposite direction, resulting in the death of three one of which was a colleague and friend of myself (and a few of the others having  the previous heated discussion), this incident took place on Thursday night, and he was on his way to work... he will be missed, along with the the other two who lost their life that day.
To put this in a nutshell, I wonder to myself did anyone of them wake up that morning with any sense of dread that life would not be the same for them as they knew it...I know we all have to go someday, but when a tragedy like this happens to close friends and family, its just another reminder of our own mortality...
Please people, be careful on the road and may the God the creator bless and keep you safe another day.

Wash Day

Decided to do my weekly wash (yes its the middle of the week but when you work shift, days don't really have much significance unless its a holiday!), and for the past month I've been experimenting with a deep conditioner mix that seems to be working quite well...
My hair soaking wet and before I add the shampoo..

When I use the lustrasilk on its own, its just ok, but when mixed with the above combination my hair feels a bit more soft and silky.
This is after I took my plastic cap off

I also happen to like the fact that these products are affordable and easily available, so when its finish I can always re-purchase these items at the local grocery, pharmacy, variety store or at our local "anything/everything" variety type store- Pennywise.
Its a bit untidy but it still feels soft and not coarse and frizzy

My Hair Joy :-]

On October 17th my long awaited copy of  "The Science of Black Hair" arrived 11:20 am. I had ordered the most affordable (soft cover) copy from Amazon on the 8th of October alongside the "Hot Sock" ultra light diffuser. Anyway this was my first time ordering anything online    so you know this was a big deal for me!

Considering that I live outside the U.S the speed of shipping was fast and the company that collected my items were efficient, so hooray for Web Source and Amazon!!
